ELECTIVES
Theatre students will study acting skills including use of body and voice to express feelings, improvisation, characterization and warm-up activities. Class activities will include creation of scenery, props, lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, and publicity. This is a performance class.
Choir provides an opportunity to learn and perform concert pieces. Fundamental music reading and listening skills are taught. Possible participation in TMEA All-State Choir auditions, UIL Solo and Ensemble and Concert/Sight Reading events is part of the curriculum. This is a performance class.
Band members are responsible for performances at all football games, pep rallies, UIL contests, as well as other independent contests. All outside rehearsals and performances are required as graded activities. Some minor financial responsibilities are involved with this ensemble.
Piano class focuses on the techniques for playing a piano or keyboard. Emphasis is placed on note reading, rhythm and fingering. Performance opportunities are available.
AP Music Theory is geared toward serious music students who want to better understand the music they are playing or singing. All students enrolled will take the AP exam. During the course, particular emphasis will be placed on developing listening skills, compositional skills, sight reading ability and knowledge of rhythm, melody, harmony, form and other compositional devices. Any student planning a career in music should consider the course.
Art will emphasize drawing, design concepts, and art history/appreciation, application of drawing skills learned to the study of painting, calligraphy, printmaking and ceramics. Studies in design and art history will be introduced. For most art classes, out of class assignments will be required.
